Wow, it's only NINE DAYS until we fly to New Zealand. Where on earth have the last eight months gone?!
Back in December, when we found out we would be moving to Christchurch, it felt like such a long time to go. We were initially going to move at the beginning of June, but due to some of my husband's work commitments and other factors, we pushed back the move date until the end of August. And now that date is just nine days away. Nine. NINE. Holy crap. That is pretty soon.
We finally found out two weeks ago that we have been granted resident visas, which is so great! We won't have to worry about reapplying for visas every year or two, we can concentrate on settling in properly, and the security of knowing we can stay indefinitely will take some pressure off. It's been a long process (around five months) to get the visas, and stressful at times.. we decided not to hire an immigration advisor and go it alone(!), which led to some head scratching, some tantrums, and some tears at times, but it was totally worth it. Once we land in Christchurch, we'll send off our passports to Immigration New Zealand, and when they are returned it will be official; we'll be New Zealand residents. EEK.
So, with nine days to go, what are we doing at the moment? Well, today the suitcases came out of storage.. I'll start packing over the next couple of days. We're heading back to the UK on Thursday for a little early birthday celebration with my mum and my twin - we turn 30 in a month, shortly after D and I land in New Zealand, so we obviously need to have a celebration together before I fly! And then we have two days back in Germany next week to finish packing, have one last meal at our favourite German restaurant, and head to the airport...
So, on we go to the next chapter!
