This weekend just gone was our first wedding anniversary. And of course, we celebrated in style... by visiting Christchurch's first and only Cat Cafe - Catnap Cafe!

Welcome to the first Cat Cafe on New Zealand's South Island! Catnap is an absolute treat, and it has rocketed to the top of my favourite things to do in Christchurch.
If you've never been to a cat cafe, and you're worried about the cats' welfare, never fear! There are some rules to make sure that our furry friends are safe, relaxed and comfortable - the most important thing to remember is that this is their home, and you've been invited to visit. Guests book in to a one-hour time slot (this can be done online), and the cats are rested throughout the day too. They also have plenty of opportunities to get away from humans if they want, with high-up spots to perch, and a closed-off area too.
The owners have created a beautiful area for cats and humans alike, with comfy seating for everyone, and a magnificent climbing frame (unfortunately only for cats). Holmes is demonstrating nicely here:
And did I mention that they also do great coffee, and lots of tasty vegetarian and vegan treats? Just watch out for curious whiskers trying to get a taste!
The cats and kittens here have been rescued from local charities; some will remain as permanent residents at the cafe, and some will be adopted out to their fur-ever homes.
Catnap also cares for cats with special needs, such as Oscar (below) and Pixie (bottom), who both have a neurological condition called cerebellar hypoplasia. This makes them a little wobbly when they walk, but all the more lovable for it. I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time here...
